Description:
The village of Kurtatsch nestles picturesquely on the slope of the South Tyrolean lowlands on the local wine road. This very special location allows the winemakers of the Kurtatsch winery to grow a wide variety of remarkable wines. In the valley at an altitude of about 250 meters, spicy, substantial wines such as the award-winning Gewürztraminer thrive. On the sunlit slopes above the village, the terroir changes and is therefore ideally suited for other varieties: Pinot Blanc, Müller Thurgau or Pinot Grigio grow at unusually high altitudes (up to 900 meters above sea level) and develop the fresh acidity typical of these grape varieties. When President Arnold Terzer wanders through the vineyards with a keen eye for his delicate plants from his sun-tanned face and only the soft rustling of the vine leaves and the distant ringing of a small chapel in the middle of the vineyards can be heard, then one understands how the wines of the Kurtatsch winery could rise to the top rank of South Tyrolean winegrowers. It should not be neglected that the head oenologist Otmar Doná also does the rest in the wine cellars to ensure that the cooperative's products have received many awards.
