Colgin Cellars IX Estate Red Blend 2018

The “IX Estate” is a powerful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. “IX Estate” is a wine of great power with towering aromatics of dark fruits, savory herbs, and spice. First produced in 2002, “IX Estate” can be enjoyed in youth and ages gracefully for years to come.
From their steep hillside vineyards on Pritchard Hill, the Proprietary Red IX Estate is an old-fashioned Médoc blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, but with some Cabernet Franc (rarely seen in the Médoc these years) as well as Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vineyard area from which “IX Estate” Cabernet Sauvignon based wine is vinified is 16 acres (6.47 hectares) of extremely rocky iron-rich volcanic soil located in the hills above eastern Oakville. This intensely steep Eastern facing slope is between 1100-1400 feet. Carved out from a much larger parcel, the land that became the “IX Estate” vineyard was virgin forest, which was planted in the late 1990s by Ann Colgin and her husband Joe Wender. The purpose was to create a larger vineyard site from land which had the potential to reveal the greatest expression of Napa Valley terroir. The “IX Estate” vineyard produces a wine of great power and character with towering aromatics of red fruit, savory herbs and spice.
