Description:
Chateau de la Greffiere is a typical house of Mâcon with an old wine fermenting cellar which is now transformed into a museum. This building has held wine activities since 1585. In 1789 the wine cellar was built, and the castle finished in 1830. In 1924, the Greuzard family acquired the vineyards and property, completely restoring them. The vineyards are located in La Roche Vineuse in the region of Macon, in south of Burgundy. This hilly landscape offers different appellations like Mâcon La Roche Vineuse. Fruit for this wine is selected from the oldest vines of the property, 50 years-old on average, which are then fermented and aged in oak barrels. Only a portion of oak is new, resulting in more backbone and structure without overpowering notes of oak. The oak gives a touch of spice and added richness to the bright peach, citrus and pear dominated flavors of this lovely White Burgundy. Mineral notes run throughout, and the acidity is refreshingly balanced.
