The old vines of HMR form a unique vineyard mix lacking a source attribution, they are a ‘massal selection’ aka the ‘HMR clone’ having evolved from a multiplicity of original vines. The HMR designation indicates that the wine is based on our best vineyard sites and the oldest vines.
The wine has an underlying tension surrounding its unfolding layers of rose petals and brisk cherry fruit, all reflected in its snap of fresh natural fruit acidity. Hints of its French red Burgundy provenance can be found in the wine’s coil of inner energy with integrated elements of Asian spices, black tea, and sandalwood melded into its sublime black cherry fruitiness. A long countdown of sustaining flavors leads to a voluminous finish of lifted dark fruit. A bit of aeration will embellish the current youthful ardor, drink now through 2025.
