The Irish Tricolor Cocktail...Sláinte!

296-2960577_images-for-irish-american-flag-wallpaper-irish-flag-1024x683_image — The flag of Ireland, known as the Irish Tricolour, has a deeper meaning than can be gleaned from a casual glance. The green represents “the older Gaelic tradition” and Celtic Catholicism, while the orange is for the Protestant supporters of William of Orange from the Netherlands who wed Mary II, daughter of James II, and, upon James’ death, became king and queen of England in 1689. The white section in the middle of the flag symbolizes the truce between the two factions. With just three strips of color the Irish Tricolour memorializes the old, the new, and the coming together for peace.

Many of you may be familiar with a Tricolor Shooter: a shotglass concoction of Irish whiskey, Bailey’s and Grand Marnier. While tasty, we at the Rollers Consortium would like to suggest something more refined:

The Irish Tricolour Cocktail

1 ½ oz Green Chartreuse
1 ½ oz Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin
1 ½ oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass filled with fresh ice. Stir vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass.

For some, it’s just not St. Patrick’s Day without a shot or two of Jameson. OK, we get it. For you, we offer this variation that substitutes Jameson Orange for the Dry Curaçao. Jameson Orange is technically a liqueur that delivers a low 60 proof and a sweet orange tang:

The Jameson Tricolour Cocktail

1 ½ oz Green Chartreuse
1 ½ oz Drumshambo Gunpowder Irish Gin
1 ½ oz Jameson Orange

Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass filled with fresh ice. Stir vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass.
