Madame Clicquot: Pioneer of Women in Wine Mon, Aug 29, 22 The weather is cooling down and it’s time to enjoy some dress up and cand…AND Champagne?!? October is the month of one of Rollers most popular events of the year, Yelloween! On National Champagne Day (October 22nd) come on in wearing the signature color of the Veuve Clicquot label and enjoy some nibbles, bubbles, and prizes. Veuve is one of the most successful champagne houses in France built by a 27 year old woman in 1805 when women were pretty much excluded from the business world. Looking back on her life, She was born in 1777 to the mayor of Riems, which allowed her an excellent education. She married Francois Clicquot in 1798 at 21 years old who helped instill the Champagne knowledge and passion, and therefore gave her the confidence to run the company after Francois unexpected death in 1805. There is a bit of mystery surrounding his death with rumors of suicide, but inevitably linked to typhoid. Madame Clicquot took the horrible event in stride becoming the leader of the business. She would seize each new opportunity that arose. She was brave and willing to take the risks. She expanded the business all over the world and maintained a very high level of quality. Clicquot also made herself infamous in the world of champagne past her own brand. She invented the “table de remuage” (riddling table) which made it possible to clarify the wine and made the very first blend of Rose Champagne. Help us celebrate the life of this Champagne innovator, and of course Halloween the adult way, by tasting through the Veuve Clicquot champagnes including their tete de cuvee “La Grande Dame” with a group of like minded individuals on October 22nd!
